This is the 4th book in the series following Sam Powers former crime reporter turned travel columnist. After her adventure in Lake Tahoe in the last entry we picked up with Sam feeling a little glum as she is in Carmel overseeing the Magazine while her boss/mentor Mona is in New York for an convention so is also doing the Splendid Adventures column while there, Sam is sad at this and she would have liked to go so she could have a chance see Roger Kai her long distance Hawaiian boyfriend as he is there also at a cop conference. Soon Sam is brought out of her funk when Mona calls her and asked for her help as her friend has vanished who also is the founder of the conference, Sam is soon in the big apple 🍎 meeting Mona's colourful array of friends and the staff of the historic hotel the luxury conference is being held, a body is found but the police think it's an accident but Sam isn't so sure. Sam soon is looking into the death while juggling time with Roger and also having a flirtation with a Broadway stage tech who is also Mona's friend nephew. This was such a fun read and having read the three previous entries this was just as great as the author has experience in travel writing so you get a idea of behind the scenes in the travel industry and she gives such good description of the city. We have some tension in Sam and Roger's relationship as they barely have a chance to see eachother while Roger is wrapped up at the conference and Sam is feeling neglected which leads to her getting a bit flirty with Mona's friend nephew, but all gets sorted out. I thoroughly enjoyed this and can't wait to read the next one.
