⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Might get spoilery.

I got this as a eARC from Netgallery and just got to it in my pile of ARCs, it came out 17th June 2025.

This is a great dark comedy thriller centre around Fran and Gareth Donoghue a happily married couple that have just moved to their new job for Gareth's job. It starts with Fran having killed their next door neighbour and disposing of the corpse. Which is one way to start a book but we learn over the course of the story why she did this murder but also it not her first one. Of course one of the winkles for Fran in trying to get away with the crime is her husband Gareth is a police officer.

This is told from two points of view from Fran's and from Gareth's. Fran trying to make sure she doesn't get caught but also while trying for a baby. Gareth's side is him trying to fit in his new workplace with colleagues who act like it's school and picking on the new kid while trying to impress his boss along with the anxiety of trying for a baby, in this mix a wellness check on the creepy neighbour who Fran had killed, which she tries to make look like he wandered off to commit suicide, but Gareth is good at his job and sences that a crime has happened unaware this will lead to murder investigation that will lead to his wife being a person of interest.

I found this to be a lot of fun and thrilling with dark humour, I loved you could feel the love Fran and Gareth have for eachother and sensed his turmoil when he has to give information that leads to her arrest and his trying to find proof of her innocence but learning more than he expected.

Fran's side we learn her reasons for her killings and that the victims were connected and apart of a bad event in her past. The reasons for her actions are understandable even if twisted like keeping a severed finger with a ring which she gives to her hermit of a foster brother who went through the same trauma but doesn't kill instead is agoraphobic and a hoarder of old newspapers. The ending shows how much them showing how much their love eachother even with the revelations that have come out, they is also a little surprise I didn't expect. This was a blast.
